Open Question: Considering piano as a career, need some advice, expertise?
I adore music and I've always known I wanted to be a musician of some sort since i was young. Recently though, I thought I would do music as a hobby because I got a full academic scholarship in the sciences to a state school, and my parents said it would be stupid of me to give it up. But I realized I don't want to do something that's going to make me unfulfilled for the rest of my life.. So I told my parents I want to be a musician and it's final. They aren't too happy about it, but they said they will supportt me if it will make me "somewhat successful and earn me a good living". I've been teaching myself to read music for the past year (but iI've been doing improvisations and composing my own music by ear for several years), making the most out of it, and I've been regularly checking with a piano teacher to make sure I'm not making any mistakes. Seems to be going good, I'm in grade 6 at the moment and have been practicing classical peices very hard. I dedicate around 4-6 hourse each day. What steps can I take to get farther in this career? Should I consider music school? What career options are available for me? Joseph P: I meant I used to play by ear, composing my own music and doing improvisations BEFORE I could read music. That's why I started to teach myself to read music. I know that "playing by ear" isn't good enough. No, I'm not talking about the UK grading. I live in the US. Btw- I'm 17 if I hadn't already mentioned

Open Question: where am i likely to succeed and be happy ?
i know who i am and i have dreams that i will make come true. i'm 19, i have tattoos and a few piercings. and before i jumpstart into making my career i'm curious as to where i would likely be happy and further succeed in reaching my goals. in today's society i know a lot of people are judgemental and its hard for me becuase i'm probably the most diverse person ever. haha i'm into metal and music, but on wednesdays nights i listen to classical music and read adventure novels. lol i'm into a lot of things and i'm really good at a lot of things but my dream since i was 13 was to be a CRNA. Ive been accepted into universities around the country considering i have a 4.0 but my problem is, where will i be most accepted and be able to reach my goal ? its strange for someone like the way i look to be interested in the medical field is what a lot of people tell me. i'm not all gaudy and decked out with metal in my face but i know what i like and my tattoos are a way of expressing who i am and my morals. SO my dilemma is where else in the united states besides california will i be more accepted and less doubted. I know what i want and i'm going to be a CRNA no one can stop me but not for one second am i going to drop who i am for my dream, or drop my dream because who i am " just doesnt fit the mold" so any suggestions please!? or is cali really all its cracked out to be...
Open Question: Which singer truly deserves to be called a DIVA?
Okay, I think a DIVDA is someone who has a long history of successful hits and albums, who has kept herself strong and beautiful for years, who has not been broken by the press, who has been a good role model and an addition to this world. I want to say Madonna... but Madonna has fallen in my eyes since the Hard Candy. She was a DIVA in Ray of Light, but now days, she's just too "slutty" and too "desperate" to keep the DIVA name. I want to say Celine Dion, but she's been stock in a circle since My heart will go on... She's not reinventing herself and music is too country as of late. So, after considering many, many more, I have came to a conclusion, that in my opinion, a true DIVA, who actually deserves to bare such name is.... SARAH BRIGHTMAN!!!!! She has been in music industry for 30 years! She has reinvented her image from each album, but not only that, she has songs that are oprah, rock, pop, new age, world, classical, etc... She's one of the rare singers who has a variety of styles compiled into one voice. She's just amazing!!!! Check out these videos on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-9Z6WoKIyx4&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SDRGtK8z0Ik&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YDQ_v0LiysA and this, guys, please, this is my all time favorite song by Sarah Brightman, please listen to it and lemme know what you think: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mLozn2HTeng once again, Briteny Spears cannot be a DIVA because she hasn't been around for too long! Nor Mirah Carry, nor Beoncey!!!

Open Question: Can You Please Tell me Your Favorite Songs?
I want to put together a CD for my sweetie. She's a wonderful person, very positive and charismatic, with a very deep insight into people and the world, constantly blowing me away with the things she understands and sees. I'm totally in love with her; we've been going out for a few years now, and the last time I put together a CD of music I thought she'd like, she DID; she loved it, played it in her car for months until it finally got scratched and lost. Anyway, my music-fu is pretty lame, and it took a lot of work and most of a year to find amazing songs which would surprise her, (she's more plugged into music and knows a lot more than I do about it.) I even pulled a couple of tracks from some obscure anime I remember liking when I was younger. --So what I wanted to do before Christmas is find another list of great music she won't have heard before but which will be really awesome and special for her to discover, except I've been at it for a month now and my list is pretty sparse. So. . . Everybody has at least a handful of songs which are their special faves. Please tell me some of your picks. I'd really appreciate it. New or old, but semi to completely obscure is best. Any style or genre within the basic song format, (classical music isn't what I'm looking for on this project). --Though a cool dance track or two might be good. They don't have to be necessarily happy songs. This is a person who loves stuff from Leonard Cohen, Tracy Chapman and Bob Dylan all the way to today's popular radio music. Thank you so much!
Open Question: am i GOOD or an amuture at.....?
music? okay, so ive been playing piano for about 2-ish years now (im 15 now, and i started around 12) and i started playing the electric (plug in) piano in my home and didnt stop. the bad thing is, i dont mind for the reading of it, and do most of my work visually. i started a while ago by listening to the piano more. i started by doing the kind of full version of munneut (spelling?) by bach and canon by pachelbel. there not the full key versions because the dumb music book that came with the piano only gives songs in amuture style or something. i then started doing a few other songs that are simple like scarborer fair, im still doing that now. a while back, i understood how to visually play songs on a floppy disk that came with the piano that was more for pros and i learned like 1/5 of clare du lune in its true form, but then the floppy broke, so i dont know how to do the rest. when i started, i also started playing around with fingering. soooooo, i created my own liitle classical pieces. i have created about 10 pieces of work over the time i started and people are surprised i made up music without anyone teaching me. i also taught myself everything i know. i also taught myself how to play by sound, like Nearer my God to Thee, and a spanish lullaby, and some others. now, am i a over acheaver or a kind of person who teaches theirselves to do things? (ive taught myself how to play piano, draw, cook, and sew) i dont care at all about the career of music but i just would like to play for the enjoyment of playing.
