Open Question: 5th question in series, "the 3 fff's": premier for "Lohengrin" by Richard Wagner": familiar with its history?

This is the fifth and probably what will be the last question in this series - the "3 fff's": "Fiasco's, Flops and Fabulous Firsts" - due to the lack of interest in it. My co-host "hafwen" and I both feel very disappointed and discouraged in the number of responses to our questions. So unless a sufficient number of you should express an interest in its continuation, this will be the last question. ------------------------------------------------------------------ "Lohengrin" by Richard Wagner, a "Fabulous First". It's the third opera of the nine of this composer that are considered to be part of the standard operatic repertoire. The most popular of all, it has been so ever since its very successful premiere in Weimar, Germany in 1850; which was produced and directed by his long time and famous benefactor, the great pianist and composer, Franz Liszt. A Wikipedia article about Lohengrin: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lohengrin_(opera) An interesting "tid-bit": King Ludwig II of Bavaria - its last one - was another principal and most genereous of Wagner's benefactors, saving him from finacial ruin more than once, and without whose patronage, the Festspielhaus(Wagner's own where the "Ring" cycle was premiered)would never have come to fruition. A Wikipedia article about him: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ludwig_II_of_Bavaria And here are some You Tube videos of the most popular excerpts from it: The Acit I Prelude: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7prUFflX0_E&feature=related "Elsa's Procession to the Cathedral", Act II: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UgTK-U96k5Q&feature=related The Prelude Act III http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=InPRlxxOpOc&feature=related "In Fernem Land", Lohengrin's best "aria-?": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8J7Jhx93s9w&feature=related So, what's your opinion of this, Wagner's most popular opera, and do you wish the series to continue? Alberich -------------------------------------------------- SORRY: the last video is of the famous Bridal Chorus("Here comes the Bride"), which I had meant to included anyway. Here's "In Fernem Land": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1jTMtaojTzc&feature=related ------------------------------------------------- "Edik": sorry if we didn't make it clear as to the theme of the series. It was meant to focus only on first performances of a work: its "premiere". The degree to which they were met with approval/dis-approval. "Fabulous Firsts" - Lohengrin's premiere was one. "Flops" - no demonstrable interest exhibited at its premiere - such as what happened with Rachmaninoff's 1st Symphony. "Fiasco" - notorious rejection at its premiere, such as the riots which occurred at the premiere of Stravinsky's "Rites of Spring". It will be up to hafwen whether or not the series will continue. Alberich
